“This is just beginning. Rajasthan’s journey in international wrestling has officially started,” said Rajeev Dutta, President of the Rajasthan Wrestling Federation
What made the performance even special was the outstanding contribution of Rajasthan’s female wrestlers.
India registered a remarkable performance at the Under-17 Wrestling Championship held in Athens, with young women wrestlers leading the medal tally and showcasing the growing strength of Indian grassroots sports.
On the very first day of the international tournament, India clinched five medals — two gold, two silver, and one bronze — underscoring the depth of talent among the country’s emerging wrestlers.
What made the performance even special was the outstanding contribution of Rajasthan’s female wrestlers, who brought home one gold and one bronze medal, marking a proud milestone for the state in its very first showing at this level of competition.
Rising star Ashwini Bishnoi secured a gold medal in the 65 kg category, delivering a dominant performance and demonstrating her potential to become a future mainstay of Indian wrestling. Meanwhile, Komal Verma fought her way to the bronze medal in the fiercely contested 49 kg category, earning accolades for her grit and resilience.
The victories also mark a personal triumph for Rajeev Dutta, President of the Rajasthan Wrestling Federation, who had promised to elevate the state into a national wrestling powerhouse when he assumed office. His commitment to nurturing talent at the grassroots level is beginning to bear fruit, with Rajasthan now earning its place on the international wrestling map.
“This is just the beginning. Rajasthan’s journey in international wrestling has officially started with this championship. Our girls have made the country proud, and we will leave no stone unturned to support them in their future endeavors,” Dutta said while congratulating all five Indian medal winners.
He also announced that the medal-winning wrestlers from Rajasthan will be given a grand welcome on their return to India, and assured continued investment in training, infrastructure, and international exposure for emerging athletes.
With this spirited showing in Athens, India’s young wrestlers — especially its daughters — have sent a clear message to the world: the future of Indian wrestling is bright, determined, and unstoppable.
