Gavaskar tipped Djokovic to clinch the coveted title as the Serbian icon goes in search of his record 25th major title.

Legendary Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar caught up on his tennis at Wimbledon during his downtime ahead of the start of the third Test of the five-match series between India and England, slated to begin on Thursday at the Lord’s.
Gavaskar tipped Novak Djokovic to clinch the coveted title as the Serbian icon goes in search of his record 25th major title. Djokovic is slated to take on World No.1 Jannik Sinner in the semifinal of the event on Friday.

“Every time I’m in London around this time of the year, I come to Wimbledon. But, I don’t go to the Lord’s unless India is playing, or it is a final. So I come here more often than I go to the Lord’s,” Gavaskar revealed as he spoke on his inclination towards the prestigious event at SW19.
“I would like Djokovic to win because it would be his 25th. Nobody has won twenty-five Majors so that would be fantastic,” the legendary batter said.
“So my heart says Djokovic, but my mind says Alcaraz,” the 75-year-old added.
“Also, I say Alcaraz cause Sinner is injured. Yesterday we saw him sustain an injury and he might not be at a 100 percent for the remainder of the tournament,” he continued.
“I saw Alcaraz take two sets off Norrie and it was just amazing the way he played.”
“I know Alcaraz swept Djokovic away last year, but I hope he will be able to find that one last wind to clinch that 25th title,” Gavaskar opined.

Gavaskar also went on to laud the spirits tennis was played at the French Open as he found players upholding the integrity of the game refreshing in the current day and age.
“There are times when cricketers know when they are out or the ball crosses the boundary line, but they wait for the umpire’s call. So I think sport could use a bit more of the right spirit cause everybody loves that,” the Indian said.
Gavaskar opined that Alcaraz is probably dishing out the best performances at SW19 this year.
“He’s moving around very well, and then he has got all the shots in the book. He can be a bit of a showman at times. Maybe when he tries a drop instead of finishing off the play. But, then again, that’s why people come to watch.”
“Its like people coming to watch Rishabh Pant. Because with Pant, you have to expect the unexpected. And that’s what makes them so exciting,” he concluded.
