Ahead of a hectic schedule, it’s not looking good for Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski, who suffered what appeared to be a hamstring injury in the Catalans’ 4-2 comeback win over Celta Vigo on Saturday.
The Polish forward, Barca’s top scorer this season, was taken off in the final stages of his team’s 4-3 win against Celta Vigo, which put the Catalans seven points clear of second-placed Real Madrid.
Barcelona are waiting to find out if he will be fit for the upcoming Copa del Rey final and the Champions League semi-final.
There’s going to be no easy walk to any silverware for Barcelona, who have to face Mallorca on Tuesday in La Liga and then Real Madrid in the Copa final on April 26, before hosting Inter Milan in the Champions League semi-finals on April 30.
According to reports from Fabrizio Romano, Lewandowski has sustained a muscle injury and will go through tests within 24 hours to determine his recovery.
Flick shall remain eager for the update, given the importance Lewandowski holds in the lineup.
“We have to wait… from my experience, we wait until tomorrow,” said Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, whose side is chasing a potential quadruple of trophies.
Spanish media also reported Lewandowski could be out for three weeks, which would put him at risk of missing both legs of the Champions League semi-final.
Having scored 40 goals and produced a further three assists in 48 matches across all competitions this season, Lewandowski’s absence will be sorely felt over the next three weeks or so.
But with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal among the other attacking talents on the side, there will be fair hope that the Champions League frontrunners can find solutions, but they will need to do so quickly.
For now, Spaniard Ferran Torres is set to take Lewandowski’s role in the attack if the 36-year-old is sidelined.
